The Innocent Ear: it’s not easy to both lead and facilitate your team at the same time. As leader you have a vested interest in the outcome. Some members of your team may jockey for position; while others stay silent, uncertain how their contribution may be received.

A third party facilitator can provide the innocent ear –  listening to all equally, accessing the full wisdom of the room, independent of the outcome.  The key is in not being the expert, but rather, the innocent ear. To quote Dylan again, “Ah! but I was so much older then, I’m younger than that now.

Sometimes we don’t need to look for complex answers. It can be better to ask the simple questions…. with an innocent ear.
